Interlude with a Monster

I burnt the roof of my mouth trying to eat the sun

tossed my bottle of SPF 44 into my bag and started to run

Shortly thereafter, words washed ashore

adjectives, nouns and metaphors

I sat there with my wooden guitar at a beachside motel whisky bar

Pour me a glass

kick me in the ass

I glanced down at my

HELLO MY NAME IS name badge

Peeling it back

I reviewed the Fax

My friends all correspond with

antiquated tech-nology

Dear John,

I heard she left in the middle of the night

a midnight stroll, insomnia calls

Toss and turn in your bed

your t-shirt drenched in blood and sweat

it must shake your brain like an etch-a-sketch

We all know she's just a part-time, middle aged, weekend housewife

inspired to find the perfect blood type

you were incompatible from the start,

a hemophiliac and the vampire who drove the stake through your heart

Get out the Ouija board

call out the National Guard

Your bride to be just ordered a casket from Omaha

Roll the dice

land on Park Place

Man,  you can't afford this place

We will be waiting

for your call

Pour another shot of

Pepto Abysmal

So, I strummed thru a set of Bob Seger and Buffet

watched the crowd get unsettled, the sun turn bright orange

I unbuttoned my shirt

shouted out "Fuck-it"

Transitioning into a tantalizing Neil Young medley

the crowd responded by tapping their feet and throwing some broccoli

a big Australian bloke back by the bar

 shouted out "Sweet!"

Fading away on some Vampire Blues

I told them I'd be back in ten minutes, they hadn't a clue

Just enough time to open a window to the past

I began to crawl through

I buried my cell phone in the sand

tired of waiting for your exotic ring tone

Just when I was about to get serious

two sumo wrestling crabs began to fight over it

Life is always greener on the other side of the planet

Other planets have their advantages

I sat there waiting for the sand to ring

trying to be an artist I found emotions instead

You're only human she use to say

I tossed away my bottle of empty clichés'

In my attempt to be different I ended up the same

My Manager pokes me with a stick and says "Dude, you're on

 until 10:00"

I remember a time we had time on our side

a stroll thru the park, curtains drawn at dark

a storybook romance

that faded to black

You might ask, "What happened in the end?"

She deep fried my heart

sucked the life from my best friend Ray

took the night shift at the blood bank

never saw her again.

These things are all good

as I now have a wife and 4 kids

live on the beach

got a steady gig

But I'll never forget

that summer of blood

and the monster unleashed
